Ottawa Citizen ePaper App Reviews

Storage and account problems

I too have been forced to delete and re-download the app twice to free up iPad memory. Now it is telling me I have to pay to get todays issue even though my credit card has been charged for the subscription. And it did the same thing last month.

Cant download

UPDATE (Version 3.8.4): They finally fixed the storage issues - when you delete a paper in the app, it makes space on your device. Yay! Sentences being cut-off when you read a story in zoom mode is a new bug. UPDATE (Version 3.4.2): The downloading is fixed, but the other problems are not. Deleting a paper does not make space on the device - I have 5 papers on my device, taking up 12.3GB! Ack! Before the change, I was using PressReader to download the Citizen ePaper and it worked well. Since the change, I cant download anything. Im sure this is a PressReader issue, but it takes forever to download a paper, and it downloads in chunks. I wait 10 minutes at 0% then it jumps up to 40% and gets stuck. Then it jumps up again. The paper takes minimum 30-40 minutes to download. Fix your app and servers!

Ottawa Citizen ePaper

Prior to this app, reading the ePaper with a web browser was kludgy - at best. I found using this app to be superior to reading the printed paper. Navigation is simple and zooming in on articles or sections of a page is easy. I will be recommending the app to my friends.

Not able to download!

I checked the requirements listed and I meet them, yet I am not even able to download on two of my iPads (only the most recent one is able to get the app)! Lousy way of getting people hooked with the wrong subscription!

Useless!

Im an Ottawa Citizen subscriber but still cant download the paper to my iPad without paying. This app clearly doesnt work! Let me know when it has been fixed.

Fritz

I have just started to use the APP, I have found NO problems yet. Fast download of the paper ( a few seconds ) I have had the paper version for many years and have switch to E-Paper ( price difference ) I will however have to get used to the new way of reading the new version of the citizen.

They just killed what was left of a daily newspaper in Ottawa.

Very sad to see you go.

Not as good as the old one!!!!

I do not like the fact that its like the paper

Not yet working

There doesnt seem to be a way for me to log in as a print subscriber and access the tablet version of the Ottawa Citizen. I can log in on my lap top but not my ipad. Please correct this problem ASAP.

... Or not to pay

I was suspecting that the new app would force me to pay for a subscription and this is exactly what happened. Why is it that improved equates more money? Well, I wont pay for the privilege to read the paper, not that I wanted to read the paper. I just wanted some news about the city where I live. I can still do it through my library account & follow the Twitter account for "breaking news".

Ottawa Citizen ePaper

This does not work and the Ottawa Citizen is not responding. Even though I am a subscriber to the printed version, I cannot log in. I can use the web version. However; the iPad version is nothing by junk. STAY AWAY FRPM THIS APP!

Horrible rollout

Dont even bother till they iron out the bugs.

Annoying finger maze game

They clearly the designers loose on this one and didnt test with users. Instead of being able to relax and read some stories, its an intensive finger maze game, swipe down, swipe left, tap here tap there to get the stories. Most obnoxious is a swipe to the next page auto plays any video on the next page.

Horrible on iPhone.

While other newspapers are moving with the technology by adopting to the medium, Ottawa Citizen is trying to force an old style and an old business model. Firstly I dont want to pay for the entire paper if Im only interested in 1 or 2 articles a day (which I would pay for if it was lets say 25c an article). Same like I dont want to buy the whole CD if I only like one song off the album. I will be deleting this app unfortunately.

Where is the zero star option?

Agree with all the reviewers so far. New app is crap. Old logins do not work, need to pay more money for a bigger, slower app. I am cancelling my paper subscription tomorrow.

A fine example of what no to do

Yes its hard to believe this app came from the same place as the brilliant previous version. It adds slowness while taking away content but offsets those with increase ugliness and decreased legibility. Sad sad sad. Im now looking for a newspaper that has an app like the old one. Limited local content not worth the annoyance of using this

Does not work

I have been unable to download it.

Great on an iPad 4

Its a great app for reading the Ottawa Citizen on my iPad with 10-inch screen in landscape or portrait orientation. Unlike the Citizens other app, Ottawa Citizen for iPad, the ePaper is the full edition of the paper, including the important parts, such as comics and obits. There is no help file to assist in using the app but it took me all of half an hour of trial and error to figure out how it works. I already subscribe to the paper version of the Citizen so using this app is a no-brainer, especially for travelling.

Horrible app

I was looking forward to being able to access the Ottawa Citizen through this new app, as a result of the print version being greatly modified. (I dont like the new print version so I was hoping to just read it on my ipad instead). I cant get the app to work AT ALL. I have tried deleting and re-installing the app but it fails at the password stage. This is so disappointing as I always enjoyed reading my morning paper. Now I am seriously considering cancelling the whole thing, that is, my subscription.

Bring back the old app!

I want the old app back please! I miss my news, I feel totally out of the loop since the release of the new apps!! Cant navigate this on an iPhone!
